FRANCHAK, Andrew
Andrew Franchak was born on May 25th 1918 to Mike & Pearl [Kerr] Franchak in Chisholm, Minnesota.
Mr. Franchak was inducted into the Army on January 23rd 1943, Fort Snelling, Minnesota. He married Mollie Margaret [Sterle] on May 29th 1943 before shipping off to Europe.
He served as a supply NCO with Company B of the 311th Engineer Construction Battalion in Rhineland. He rose to the rank of Sergeant (SGT)
SGT Franchak earned the following merits for his service:
- the Good Conduct Medal,
- American Campaign Medal,
- European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal with 1 bronze battle star,
- World war II Victory Medal, -and-
- one overseas service bar.
He was honorably discharged February 15th 1946 at Camp McCoy, Wisconsin and returned home to start a family.
Mr. Franchak died on September 30th 1988 at the age of 70 years old in Chisholm, Minnesota. He is buried at Calvary Cemetery in Chisholm.
