PLUTH, Albert Joseph

Albert Joseph Pluth was born on November 5th 1918 to Anton & Mary Pluth in Chisholm, Minnesota.

Mr. Pluth was inducted into the U.S. Army on April 28th 1942, at Fort Snelling, Minnesota. Home at entry: Chisholm.

He served as a lineman with Company A of the 440th Signal Battalion (Construction) in New Guinea, Papua, Southern Philippines, Luzon, and Ryukyu Islands during WWII. He rose to the rank of Staff Sergeant (SSGT).

SGT Pluth earned the following merits for his service:

  • Presidential Unit Citation,
  • Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal with 5 bronze battle stars,
  • World War II Victory Medal,
  • six overseas service bars,  -and-
  • the  Philippines Liberation Medal with bronze star.

 

He was honorably discharged in October 1945, at Camp McCoy, Wisconsin. After the war he returned home and married Rose [Dukich] on December 13th 1945 and they started a family.

Mr. Pluth died on December 29th 1988 at 70 years of age in Minneapolis, Minneasota. He is buried at Calvary Cemetery in Chisholm.
