Albert Charles Kosmerl was born on April 7th 1919 to Rudolph & Antonia in Chisholm, Minnesota.
Mr. Kosmerl was inducted into the U.S. Army on October 7th 1942, at Fort Snelling, Minnesota. Home at entry: Hibbing, Minnesota.
He served as a gun crewman/pack artillery with Company B of the 11th Tank Battalion in the Aleutian Islands Campaign; Rome-Arno, Italy; Southern France, Rhineland, and Central Europe. He rose to the rank of Private First Class (PFC).
PFC Kosmerl earned the following merits for his service:
- Good Conduct Medal,
- Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal with 1 bronze battle star,
- European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal with 4 bronze battle stars & bronze arrowhead,
- World War II Victory Medal, -and-
- Glider Badge.
He was honorably discharged on October 23rd 1945, at Fort Custer, Michigan. After the war, he returned home and married Madelyn "Manda" Rose [Rudolph] in 1946 and they started a family.
Mr. Kosmerl died on June 12th 1911 at 88 years of age. He is buried at Maple Hill Cemetery in Hibbing.
