Ms. Wellnitz served in the U.S. Air Force, where she spent six years as a Medical Lab Technician.
She was honored with American Legion Alaska Commander of the Year Award in 2007.
She was born on October 10, 1951, to Henry and Geraldine Mattfeld in Waconia, Minnesota.
She graduated high school from Martin Luther Academy, New Ulm, Minnesota, in 1969.
Ms. Wellnitz died at age 57, on November 24, 2008, in Anchorage, Alaska.
