HANEY, Robert Allan
Robert Allan Haney was born on September 10th 1950 to Wallace Reid & Evelyn Mae [Gimpel] Haney in Duluth, Minnesota. He graduated from Central High School.
Mr. Haney elisted in the U.S. Marine Corps and served as a rifleman
His tour of Vietnam began on July 9th 1969. He was assigned to Company D, RECON Battalion, 1st Marine Division. During his service he rose to the rank of Private First Class (PFC).
He was in theater about a month when his unit came under mortar attack on August 29th 1968 at Tam Kỳ, Quảng Nam, South Vietnam. PFC Haney tragically died the next day at Danang Hospital on August 30th 1969 at 18 years of age.
He was awarded the following merits for his service:
- National Defense Service Medal ,
- Vietnam Service Medal,
- Navy Meritorious Unit Commendation,
- Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal,
- Vietnam Gallantry Cross Unit Citation,
- Vietnam Civil Actions Unit Citation
- Combat Action Ribbon, -and-
- the Purple Heart (posthumously).
He is buried at Oneota Cemetery in Duluth.
