Ralph J. Holmes Jr. served in the Korean War. He served in the U.S. Army beginning in September 17, 1952. He was assigned to the 73rd Tank Battalion, 7th Infantry Division while in Korea. He was honorably discharged on September 4, 1954. He held the rank of Sergeant. He was decorated with the Bronze Star and the Korean Service Ribbon. Mr. Holmes was born in Superior, Wisconsin in 1931, and he is the son of Ralph and Dorothy Holmes. He graduated from East High School in Superior, Wisconsin.

“I was drafted out of the National Guard in Superior and kept my NG service number 27-907-180. Went to Fort Knox, KY for basic training. After training stayed at Fort Knox for leadership school, then to Korea. Was assigned to the 73 Tank Battalion of the 7 Infantry Division as a personnel carrier (M-39) driver. I was in the battle of Pork Chop Hill where I earned the Bronze Star (V). When the war ended, I stayed in Korea until it was close to my discharge date then to Fort Sheridan, IL to be discharged.”
