James Robert Alexander was born on Nov. 25, 1929, in Columbus, Ohio. He moved to Duluth, Minnesota in 1943 with his parents, Chester and Billie Angel. He graduated from Duluth Central High School in 1948. He met Vivi-Ann Berglund at the United Methodist Church and married her in 1950.
Jim served in the National Guard for nine years during the 1950's. He owned and operated the Maple Grove Mink Ranch, and was known internationally for the "Pearl" breeding line he developed. In 1990, he began working at St. Luke's Hospital as a security guard. He died Friday, March 9, 2007 at St. Luke's Hospital.
He is survived by sons Bill (Cindy) of Hermantown, R. Mark (Susan) of Eagan, Minn., Jamie (Pete) Glitsos of Duluth, and Jill (Jon) Anderson of Hermantown.
