David Edward Cook was born on April 9th 1943 to Clarence & Ruth [Albright] Cook in Granite City, Illinois. The family moved around some but finally settled in Silver Bay, Minnesota.
David went to Silver Bay HS where he excelled in multiple sports and named Athlete of the Year. He was recruited by St. Cloud State (St. Cloud College at the time) where too he was a standout football player lettering all 4 years and playing on both sides of the ball. After college he returned home to Silver Bay and married Roberta Joan [Matthews] on June 12th 1965 and they started a family.
After marriage, Mr. Cook enlisted in the U.S. Army on April 18th 1966 for 3 years in the midst of the Vietnam War. He reported to duty at Camp Drum, New York and he was assigned to the Eighth Army Finance and Accounting office in Seoul, South Korea from January 1967 to August 1968. He rose to the rank of Private First Class (PFC).
The Korean conflict is still not resolved even today. An armastice has been agreed upon on July 27th 1953 but the police action, as it was called, is technically still ongoing.
PFC Cook was honorably discharged in April 1969. After his service he returned to Silver Bay and worked for Minnesota Power and was an active member of the
Mr. Cook died on on December 4th 2022. He will be buried at the Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery at Camp Ripley near Little Falls, Minnesota.
