The following was taken from an interview conducted by Kate Johnston, a student at Ordean Middle School.

Robert served in the Army from 1961-1963.

He trained in Colorado and served in Germany during the Cuban Missile Crisis as part of a missile battalion. When asked about going to war he said, “I just thought as long as we had to go to fight [the Russians] we might as well show them who’s the boss right away.”
