Lt. General Bruce Carlson, originally of Hibbing, Minnesota, was commissioned in 1971 after completing the University of Minnesota Duluth’s Air Force ROTC program and graduating with a bachelor of arts degree.
He went on to attend U.S. Air Force Fighter Weapons School at Nellis Air Force Base, Nevada as well as attained master of arts degrees from Webster University, St. Louis, Missouri and Naval War College, Newport, Rhode Island.

Air Force Commendation Medal.
As of January 2000, Bruce is the director for force structure, resources and assessment, J-8 and the Joint Staff in Washington, D.C.
