VENDITTO, Oliver William
Oliver W. Venditto was born August 29th 1913 in Hibbing, Minnesota. He married Helga Linnea Lundquist also of Hibbing.
Mr. Venditto was inducted into the Army on January 15, 1944. Home at entry: Hibbing, Minnesota.
Mr. Venditto served as a Private First Class and gunner with Company M of the 383rd Infantry Regiment of the 96th Infantry Division in the Philippine Defense, Ryukyu Islands (Okinawa), and Southwest Pacific. He was wounded twice in action in the Southwest Pacific on April 27 and September 6, 1945.
He was awarded the following:
- Purple Heart with Oak Leaf Cluster,
- Good Conduct Medal,
- Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal with two bronze battle stars,
- World War II Victory Medal,
- Bronze Arrowhead, and
- the Philippine Liberation Medal with two bronze stars.
Mr. Venditto was honorably discharged on January 11, 1946, at Camp McCoy, Wisconsin.
Mr. Venditto died on July 18th 1985 and is buried at Maple Hill Cemetery in Hibbing.
