VENEZIANO, Anthony John
Anthony John Veneziano was born on March 2nd 1926 to Pasquale & Philomene Veneziano in Hibbing, Minnesota.
Mr. Veneziano entered the U.S. Army on June 23rd 1944 out of Ft. Snelling, Minnesota. Home at entry: Hibbing, Minnesota.
He served as a Sergeant Major with Headquarters Battery of the 63rd Field Artillery Battalion in the Philippines and Japan.
SGT Veneziano shared the following; "While on Leyte we were visited by General MacArthur and I was chosen for an honor and color guard for him in a parade in Manila."
He also shared, "While serving in Japan one of my duties was to arrange for return of prisoners back to Korea via passenger trains with American guards to seaports in Japan for shipment to Korea."
He was awarded the following:
- Good Conduct Medal,
- Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal,
- World War II Victory Medal,
- Army of Occupation Medal (Japan), two overseas service bars,
- Philippine Liberation Medal with one bronze star.
Mr. Veneziano was honorably discharged on May 15th 1946. He returned home and married Lana Bianconi and they started a family.
He died on November 25th 2010 in Hibbing, Minnesota at 84 years of age. He is buried at Maple Hill Cemetery in Hibbing.
