WWI German Light Machine Gun
This WWI Light German Machine Gun was produced by Spandau in 1918 and was one of the most common machine guns used during WWI. Typically the gun was liquid cooled and attached to a tripod in the trenches of WWI. This one in particular was air cooled and attached to an German airplane. During WWI, a soldier from Duluth, MN took this piece off a plane, crated and shipped it to Veterans Memorial Hall that was then inside the St. Louis County Courthouse. The crate it was shipped in still bears the stencil "Veterans Memorial Hall" on the outside.
