New Board Member and New Veterans Memorial Hall Advisory Committee Member

Anntoinette ‘Toni’ Thorstad, MA in social work, recently joined the Society’s Board of Governors.  She is a case worker for the Minnesota Assistance Council for Veterans-MACV, and was elected to the Board of Governors at the 95th Annual Meeting of the Membership held in April.

Scott E. Markle, MA in education, has joined the Society’s Veterans Memorial Hall Program Advisory Committee.  He is a military retiree with over 20 years in the US Air Force.  Additionally, he is a member of the Head O’ The Lakes Chapter of the Military Officers Association of America, and is a member of the Richard I. Bong American Legion Post #435.


St. Louis County Historical Society New Employees

Pippi Mayfield, MS in legal studies, has been hired as the Veterans Memorial Hall Program Assistant.  She will connect volunteer oral historians with St. Louis County military veterans to secure their stories for the Society’s archives.  Pippi is an experienced writer for the Duluth News Tribune.  She has authored a history of Becker County and is now researching the history of ice harvesting in Detroit Lakes.

Charlene ‘Charley’ Langowski, BS in anthropology with a concentration in archaeology, recently was hired as the Museum Collections Assistant.  She assists the Collections Manager/Exhibits Curator in the care of collections and exhibits.

Kathleen Cargill, MA in anthropology, was hired in late 2016 as Administrative Assistant to the Society’s Executive Director.  Her duties include assisting with grant writing, interfacing with Society Board members, and serving as a genealogy research advisor. She formerly taught anthropology at The College of St. Scholastica and was that college’s first director of the McNair Scholars Program.
